And (because it comes from my sister as well as me) I have to make one more request. Lastly, I just want to say that this letter comes not only from me and the other fans who agree with me, but also from my sister (who loves the games as much as I do), my friends, and my mother (who is mostly glad that I’m playing Nancy Drew rather than games that involve gore and violence). The Nancy Drew games have been an integral part of my childhood, my sister’s childhood, and countless others.
So, all I can do is request (and hope beyond hope) that you listen to the fans like me who have been expressing their terror on the internet through the message boards, petitions, and comments. But, I have no idea if that is even an option. First, I really want you to bring back Lani Minella. And I am honestly, tearfully terrified that you guys are going to ruin that. It’s the smile on the face on someone newly addicted to the Nancy Drew games that makes these games special. It’s the husbands and wives, best friends, and siblings who play these games together that make them special. It’s people like me who struggled through the earliest ones (because they were eight and weren’t allowed on the Internet yet) that make these games particularly special. After all, one of the best things about the Nancy Drew games is the fans. Anyone who talks to me about video games gets an earful of how much I love the Nancy Drew games. I have introduced so many people to your games because of my undying love for them. But, the fact of the matter is, that if your decisions about firing Lani and going in a new direction are detrimental to the quality of your games, I will no longer be a loyal HER fan, which makes me very sad.Īnd it should make you sad too. I’ll have to watch the trailer and see from there. However, if you stick with your decision about Lani and find a new actress for the game after that, I have to admit that I do not know if I will be buying it or not. Now, having said this, I will be buying Sea of Darkness.

The series just is not the same without either of them. No one will ever be James Bond like Sean Connery was and no one can ever be Nancy like Lani Minella is. If you stick to your guns about this decision, you’re just going to end up with a James Bond situation on your hands.
I feel that this has alienated a large portion of your original fan base: people like me who grew up solving mysteries with Lani Minella as Nancy. On a similar note, I admit to being incredibly angry about your decision to dump Lani Minella. For instance, when you first started putting out two games per year I felt that the quality went down until you guys got the hang of that rate of production. I am worried that these changes you are suggesting will be designed to pander to a mass market and that this will harm the quality of your games. This is my favorite game series of all time and one of the best things about it is that it is marketed to a large, but niche audience. Therefore, I get worried when you talk about a new direction. I hate the new hint system, but that’s an issue for another time. I loved a lot of the new game play aspects too. I felt you went through a period a couple years ago where the games were getting kind of sloppy, but I've personally really enjoyed the last group of games you have put out because I have felt that they have returned to some of the aspects from the older games and they had really well done plotlines and characters. In all honesty HER, I am a little terrified of the new direction you say you guys are going in.
